Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether – New Neutral Cannabinoid

Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether – New Neutral Cannabinoid

If you are familiar with marijuana, you must have heard about cannabis as well. The cannabis plant has always been a long debate. If we can legalize the plant considering it has many medical benefits or not is still a burning question.

Cannabis consists of hundreds of cannabinoids. From various species of Cannabis; many cannabinoids have to be characterized and isolated already. In this post, we will briefly understand the isolation of CBDM – Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether.

Understanding Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether – CBDM

Considering the present studies and after multiple examinations, it is concluded that CBDM is a marijuana component as well. There have been some tests to isolate the Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether as the new minor cannabinoid by using or from the ‘Minamioshihara No. 1’ – domestic hemp

For this isolation of the compound, the leaves were properly percolated using ethanol. These ethanol extracts were also treated using acetone along with cannabinoid acid. The fraction was heated along with toluene for around eight hours to actually afford the neutral cannabinoid.

After thorough study, it was concluded that no neutral cannabinoid is detected in the hemp fresh leaves thus, Cannabidiol Monomethyl Ether must exist in nature just like phenol carboxylic acid form, called as Cannabidiolic Acid Monomethyl Ether – CBDAM. However, the first attempt of isolating the CBDM original acid was failed because of a low degree of content.

Not to mention, Cannabidiolic Acid Monomethyl Ether – CBDAM was possibly formed by the accurate methylation of the cannabidiolic acid or even the cyclization of the Cannabigerolic Acid Monomethyl Ether. These steps do suggest some new pathways in the cannabinoids and their biosynthesis.

Cannabinoids are Present in Acidic Form

Generally, we all are only familiar with some of the neutral cannabinoids such as Δ9-THC and CBD but cannabinoid also exists in the form of acid. This means that they contain a specific carboxylic acid pendant to the aromatic ring.

So far several other minor acidic cannabinoids have already been identified. This may include monomethyl and some other types of esters.

As we know our body also produces chemicals similar to that of active chemicals – Cannabinoids, there are many health and medical benefits attached to its consumption.

These medical benefits include memory, appetite, pain, and movement. Also, there have been many research studies so far that have shown proven results in treating different medical symptoms in patients suffering from chronic illness. Some of these include a reduction in anxiety, pain relieve and reduce inflammation.

Purveyors of medicine containing cannabinoid seem quite optimistic when extolling its benefits and safety. However, there is always a need to take the medicine in the required dosage. Even if we speak of different research studies conducted to study the cannabis medicinal effects, the quantity or dose has always been the major factor in increasing or reducing the symptoms.

Every cannabinoid has distinctive pharmacological effects. The most prevalent cannabinoids are CBD and THC. Indeed, there is still a need for a lot of research work to fully understand the different compounds of the cannabis plant.
