Cannabichromene – the less known cannabinoids in marijuana

Cannabichromene

You must have heard about CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) as the most popular cannabinoids of the cannabis plant. However, there is another type of cannabinoid that shows more potential and gained more attention on the basis of ongoing medical researches – called Cannabichromene or CBC.

CBC Is One of the Highly Researched Cannabinoid

Cannabichromene is popular in research industry for its potential benefits. It is derived from the similar cannabis-produced acid as that of CBD and THC, called cannabigerolic acid (CBGA).

Even though CBC is highly beneficial on its own, it also works with CBD and THC collaboratively to produce an effect known as ‘entourage effect’. There are numerous medical researchers exploring the promising benefits of CBC in combination with other similar Cannabinoids.

What Studies Unveil About Cannabichromene (CBC)

CBC has been proved to fight off fungi and bacteria. This also includes S. aureus and E. coli, containing powerful antibacterial effects. The research model of the University of Mississippi shows that it is a strong compound that is highly efficient again gram-negative, gram-positive and acid-fast bacteria.

Another study was conducted by Italian researchers who proposed that Cannabichromene show great efficacy in reducing chronic pain, even though it still lacks the effectiveness of THC’s.

While many research studies have proven the astounding anti-inflammatory effects of cannabichromene, the one published in British Journal of Pharmacology shows that CBC compound can significantly reduce intestinal tract inflammation.

The Therapeutic Potential of CBC

CBC is popular for showing a number of potential medical applications but so far, the researchers have discovered the following medical benefits.

Antidepressant

When administered on its own, CBC proves excellent anti-depressant effects. Researchers are confident that CBC will contribute to the entire mood-elevating cannabis properties.

Pain Relieving

The famous ingredient in cannabis shows great efficacy to treat pain. The Italian researchers concluded in their study that CBC compound displays valuable therapeutic agents with manifold mechanisms of action.

Promote Brain Growth

Evidence indicates; CBC promotes neurogenesis, a natural process of brain cell creation. The brain cells are in charge of learning and memory. Researchers found that cannabichromene is capable of increasing brain cells viability while encouraging neurogenesis. In other words, medical marijuana CBC is great for people diagnosed with medical conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia – conditions in which neurogenesis process is majorly altered.

How does body’s natural system interact with CBC?

CBC elicits its effect by simply influencing the performance of endocannabinoid system in our body. It is a designated network that is responsible to regulate our functions and to keep them in balance. There are two kinds of cannabinoid receptors in our endocannabinoid system – CB1 and CB2.

CBC interacts with such receptors and stimulates a range of chemical responses, designed to keep the body in homeostasis.

It is evident that CBC, on its own, offers positive therapeutic impacts. However, research tremendously supports the combination of different cannabinoids together as they enhance and synergistically work with each other. Nonetheless, cannabichromene or CBC is the important compound in marijuana, demonstrating the complex workings of the cannabis plant.
