What does Terpineol mean?

Terpineol is a naturally occurring and primary terpene found in cannabis (and hundreds of other plants and insects too). Terpenes are responsible for the fragrance associated with various plants, including marijuan,a as well as the flavors.

When isolated, terpineol has a floral, citrus, lilac, wood, pine or clove aroma to it. Its flavor profile is: anise or mint.

The levels of terpineol found in plants, including cannabis, varies by strain. Some cannabis strains that are thought to have elevated levels of terpineol are: Fire OG, Girl Scout Cookies, Jack Herer, OG Kush, Skywalker OG, and White Widow.

Terpineol found in cannabis has numerous medicinal and therapeutic properties. When used topically, it is thought to offer antibiotic properties and serve as an anti-inflammatory. When ingested, it is claimed to be an antioxidant, and an antimalarial treatment. It is also used as a sedative.

When used as a salt, terpineol can unblock stuffed nasal passage and help with common cold symptoms. It has also been shown to lessen seizure severity and frequency in some patients. Some users may experience a tingling or burning sensation when using products containing terpineol.

In cannabis, terpineols join a long list of terpenes, including pinene, linalool, mycrene, and limonene, etc.

Terpineols are also used industrially in printing and for enameling glass ware.
