Microdosing With Cannabis: Benefits Without Being Stoned on Marijuana

Micro-dosing Cannabis Without Getting Stoned

We are strong believers in microdosing with the strong belief less is more

What is microdosing?

Microdosing basically means taking a very small or microdose of cannabis to get the effects of THC or CBD.  These are the two main active ingredients in marijuana or cannabis.  The good news is that if one small microdose is not enough, you can always take one more if needed.  A dose of around 5 to 10 milligrams is a good starting point.  But how do you fully measure this as it’s not a dab or an amount of herb?   More its the number of active ingredients one consumes that is a true microdose.

How does one microdose?

While many people will say taking a small amount of cannabis in an edible is the best, we tend to think a little differently.  Edibles are the healthiest way to ingest THC and CBD and all the other compounds in cannabis for sure, but is it really the best.  Many times the issue with edibles is that a user actually overdoes it.  This happens because one feels the effects of eating after 30-60 minutes.  When this happens we see many users will then smoke a little or vape a little until they can feel the effects of the edibles.  Well at this point the user has gone too far.  Not that its so bad one will have long term bad effects, but they are just more stoned than what they were looking for.  We feel vaporizing in very small amounts is the best way for a user to experience micro-doses.  You also get to enjoy the wonderful flavorful terpenes in the cannabis.

What Can Medical Conditions Benefit From Microdosing With Cannabis?

Many people are not turning to microdosing in order to treat conditions such as stress, depression, pain, and anxiety.  Other patients are using cannabis to help promote sleep and some even to improve their focus.

As we know there are a lot of perceived benefits of THC/CBD for the pain associated with cancer.  For example, in 2012 there was a study we found on leafly.com where patients with advanced cancer who were unresponsive to traditional opioid painkillers were given nabiximols, a THC/CBD compound, at low, medium, and high doses. Patients who received the lowest dosage of cannabinoids showed the greatest reduction in pain, while those receiving higher doses actually experienced more pain.

What are the benefits?

Many advocates feel micro dosing cannabis can be used daily for relaxation and anti-inflammatory properties.  Many believe that microdosing can be used without fear of excessive psychoactivity interfering with your focus or work.  This makes cannabis use more like an herbal supplement.  With groups like the APA linking chronic stress to the six leading causes of death like heart disease, cancer, accidents, respiratory disorders, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide.  People believe cannabis can help in these areas.  With cannabis being a bi-modal meaning at a low dose you get one effect and at a high do you get an opposite effect?

What Is the Optimal Dosage for Microdosing Cannabis?

In reality, it really depends on each person.  There is a huge variance in the amount of THC that will result in feeling high.  Peoples genetics, liver metabolism, and previous usage can all play a role on microdosing.  If you are new to cannabis and you want to microdose we recommend starting at about 2.5 milligrams.  One should try this for 2-4 days and then increase only if necessary. If you have been a more heavy user it is recommended that you take about 3-4 days to let your body restart.  Results indicate that even heavy users can have their receptors go back to normal after only 2 days.

Feel free to experiment with cannabis microdosing as you can not overdose on a cannabis.
